  26. Are you paying enough ?

  28.     Good question!  Try asking yourself this; "Am I paying too much for
  29. other Shareware products?"  In most cases the answer is yes.  If a given
  30. softwareproduct were to be published and sold on retail stores shelves for
  31. $50.00, the author of the product would receive about $3.00 to $4.00 per
  32. copy.  Why?  After packaging, advertising, marketing, etc. etc. etc., there
  33. really is very little left over for the author. (that's why selling a million
  34. copies of a product is so appealing)  On the other hand, if this same author
  35. were to release the product as shareware and charge $30.00 for it he would
  36. pocket the whole amount.  One of the major concepts of Shareware was the
  37. elimination of the middlemen.  If the middleman is gone, why are you still
  38. paying for him?

  40.           Two dollars is about what I would receive for each copy of
  41. MultiWorks sold if it were still a commercial product.  Since the middleman
  42. is gone, so is his fee.

  44.     So come on, grab a $2.00 bill and stuff it in an envelope and mail it
  45. off.  You'll get to use a great piece of software, and you'll have the
  46. satisfaction of knowing that you've paid exactly the right price for it.
